Where is Salt Spring Island?
Salt Spring Island is the largest and most populated of the Canadian Gulf Islands at seventeen miles long and nine miles wide. The Island lies in the sheltered waters off the east coast of Vancouver Island, midway between Victoria and Vancouver BC. Salt Spring Island is accessible by three ferry routes (Long Harbour, Fulford Harbour, Vesuvius) and three scheduled airlines from Vancouver. Ganges is the primary village on Salt Spring and the location of most shops, stores, galleries and services.
Tranquility Cove is located on the north eastern side of the island, facing east, south east looking directly down Long Harbour.
Salt Spring can be accessed by air or sea. The closest airports are located in Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia. Both airports are serviced by several international and domestic airlines. From these airports, you can take a float plane or climb aboard one of the many ferries that service the island. Once you get to the island, you can rent a car at the local car rental agency located at Moby's Marina, in the village of Ganges.

By Air...
Upon your arrival in Vancouver airport, you can take a quick cab ride (approx 10 mins) to the Seair and Harbour Air terminals located on the Richmond River.
From here, you can take a float plane which will land directly into Ganges Harbour on Salt Spring Island.
Both Seair Seaplanes and Harbour Air provide many float plane flights daily, weather permitting. Ask them also about their inexpensive exclusive charter flights that are available. It is about 6 km from Ganges Harbour to Tranquility Cove. Upon your arrival, you can contact Silver Shadow Taxi Service to get you to Tranquility Cove.

By Sea...British Columbia Ferry Corporation, with terminals at Tsawassen (near Vancouver), Swartz Bay (near Victoria), and Crofton (near Duncan), provide car and passenger service to Salt Spring Island. These ferries travel regularly to Salt Spring. Guests arriving without an automobile can be met at the ferry terminals by Silver Shadow Taxi service.
The BC Ferries schedules do change frequently throughout the summer months, please ensure that you check the 'Schedule in Effect' dates FIRST to make sure that the schedule you are looking at pertains to the time period that you are wishing to travel.
Please be aware that during the summer months the ferries are very busy. We highly recommend that you make a ferry reservation to book your spot on the ferry if you are travelling by vehicle. Reservable routes to Salt Spring include the Tsawassen to Swartz Bay route and Tsawassen to Long Harbour. The reservation phone line can be found on their website at www.bcferries.bc.ca
The Tsawassen Terminal outside of Vancouver is about 35 mins drive from Vancouver Airport. Here you can catch the Long Harbour ferry which will deliver you into Long Harbour located on the north east side of Salt Spring. It is about 2 km from Long Harbour to Tranquility Cove.
The Swartz Bay Terminal outside of Victoria is about 15 mins drive from Victoria Airport. Here you can catch the Fulford Harbour ferry which will deliver you into Fulford Harbour located on the south east side of Salt Spring. It is about 25 km from Fulford Harbour to Tranquility Cove.
The Crofton Ferry Terminal outside of Duncan is about 2 hours outside of Comox Airport. Here you can catch the Vesuvius ferry which will deliver you into Vesuvius located on the north west side of Salt Spring. It is about 15 km from Vesuvius to Tranquility Cove.
This is a two part trip. Take the ferry from Tsawassen to Swartz Bay and then transfer to the Swartz Bay/Fulford Harbour ferry. This can be a faster route to take from Tsawassen to the island when the non-stop routes are not available. Again, it is about 25 km from Fulford Harbour to Tranquility Cove.
